The Art of Selfie and The Selfie Obsession by Lora Christelle Lim

The Art of Selfie and The Selfie Obsession by Lora Christelle Lim - When you log into your Facebook or Instagram or Twitter account, you are flooded with your friends' postings of Selfies. This could be enjoyable or annoying for some. Personally, I enjoy watching Selfies posted by beautiful people as they share their dress outfit of the day (OOTD) or when they show the various countries that they travel to or which restaurants they are dining at. The increase in Selfies has helped to increase the transmitting of information and knowledge. Talk about Stalking others on Social Media.

The Selfie helps to feed our voyeuristic nature. The convenience of taking photos of oneself has never been easier due to almost everyone owning a good mobile phone with a camera attached to it. Gone are the days where a digital camera is required to take good photographs. According to BBC news, the word "Selfie" has been named the word of 2013 by Oxford Dictionaries. So what is a Selfie???

SELFIE = A photograph of oneself typically taken with one's own mobile phone or webcam and uploaded onto a social media website.

The main reason for the increase in Selfies is the need for "Attention". Attention is power! Everyone enjoys and loves attention whether you choose to deny it or not. The honest and blatant truth of some selfies is the need to share with others how you look, how you are feeling, what you are doing or which place are you at? After all, everyone wants to lead an interesting life and be the envy of others. Some people post Selfies as a way to re-affirm their identity or beauty by receiving "Likes" on Facebook or increasing their number of followers on Instagram or Twitter. It's almost like a popularity war online. On the other hand, there are others who post Selfies when they are down to gain sympathy from others. Personally, I post Selfies on my Facebook mostly for entertainment sake especially when I'm bored.

Ellen's Selfie - http://livingtheamericanscreamdotcom.files.wordpress.com

A Selfie is a powerful tool of expression that is controlled and manipulated by the creator himself. Narcissism is no longer a crime in today's modern society. Ellen DeGeneres's OSCARS Selfie is a huge marketing success for Samsung where a Samsung mobile phone was used. It has been dubbed as the "Biggest Selfie in History" with its star studded actors such as Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper etc. included in the photo. The photo itself has more than 2.7 million tweets! It is also deemed as a "Super Selfie" and the "Selfie of all Selfies"!

Celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Rihanna etc. has exploited the powerful tool of Selfies on their Instagram accounts to gain popularity. Even US President Barack Obama and Pope Francis has caught on the Selfie craze. Taking a Selfie helps to draw/bond people together and even help to break awkward silences and can be a useful form of entertainment. I am a strong believer in taking photos to capture memories for keepsake. Photos are indeed extremely important to keep our precious memories throughout our entire lifetime!

If you have not mastered the Art of Selfie, it's time to brush up your skills! For beginners, look into the mirror and check whether you have a better side or good angle for photo-taking. Most girls have realized that taking photos where the camera is placed at a higher angle helps to make your face slimmer and eyes bigger. If you are not a photoshop whiz, the biggest advantage to improve your photos would be the use of photo-enhancing mobile phone applications such as Photowonder, Pic Collage, Photo Editor etc. which are free to download from the App Store. My favorite is Photowonder and I confess I only use and have this app on my iPhone 5. It is simple to use!

PHOTOWONDER App

Bottom line: What's the point of taking photographs if you don't share it with others? If you argue that you take photographs only to enjoy it alone, then you must have a really sad and miserable life. Photos are a great way to capture life moments and by sharing it with others, happiness is shared among all :)

Below are 8 types of Selfies on my Facebook account. Funny comments included! Love it or hate it.

1. Car Selfies - I love all my beautiful cars :) I also love driving around Sydney on a beautiful day :)

2. Travel Selfies - I'm not in Singapore, guess where I am? I love exploring & traveling around the World!

3. Fashion Selfies - Do you like my outfit and accessories? OOTD = Outfit of the Day

4. Pet Selfies - I have a beautiful dog & bunny that I love. Is your pet as beautiful as mine? Spread the love!

5. Group Selfies - I have beautiful friends and I enjoy spending time with them :) The one who takes this type of Selfie usually has the longest arms!

6. Mirror Selfies - Such a huge mirror, ideal to take a Selfie to show what I'm doing! This is especially common when at the hairdresser to show before and after. A good way to pass time & entertain oneself.

7. Chef Selfies - Who says I can't cook? Have you seen me cook up a storm in the kitchen with my pink apron on?

8. Nail Selfies - I just had an amazing manicure. Don't you love my new nail color?

P.S: Whether you love it or hate it, Selfies are here to stay for good!

CANBERRA - Auto Italia Canberra 2014 @ Old Parliament House

Photo with Yvonne Buchreiter from Autosports Lamborghini Sydney

CANBERRA - Auto Italia Canberra 2014 @ Old Parliament House - Held on 30 March 2014, the Auto Italia Canberra was a huge success. Presented by the Italian Cars Association (ICA), the one day event which featured a huge and spectacular display of Italian cars attracted a large crowd of more than 12,000 car enthusiasts. The event is a celebration of the sheer love and admiration of beautiful Italian cars, bikes and scooters as every vehicle has its own story to tell. Participants were encouraged to arrive early in the morning before 930am to position their car before doors open to public at 10am.

The Legendary Ferrari F40 - Last car produced by Enzo Ferrari

Ferrari F40 - I was so excited to attend the event and I arrived on scene at 1030am. The hottest vehicle displayed was the rare Ferrari F40 which costs approximately AUD$1.2 million. The Ferrari F40 was designed to celebrate Ferrari's 40th Anniversary and it was the last car personally approved by Enzo Ferrari the man himself. In Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond referred the F40 as the "greatest super car that the world had ever seen". Jeremy Clarkson also said that the F40 was one of the most beautiful cars ever made in history. With a top speed of 324 km/h and a quick acceleration speed of 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, the F40 is a brilliant and remarkable V8 engine car that never fails to mesmerize car enthusiasts with its sheer performance. It is also the first road legal car to ever break the 320 km/h barrier. The F40 became a legend after Enzo Ferrari died in 1988, making it the last car produced under his watch.

Ferrari Club Australia - It was lovely to see Grahame who is the President of the Ferrari Club NSW and Grace from the Ferrari Club. Miss attending all the Ferrari Club events as I've been busy lately.

Lamborghini Countach - The Countach is a legendary masterpiece specially designed by Marcello Gandini who also famously designed the Miura to leave spectators in awe. The Countach was the first Lamborghini car which featured the "Scissors Doors" which later became a Lamborghini trademark. Equipped with a traditional Lamborghini V12 engine, the Countach is a distinctive car with impressive styling and visual impression that is extremely strong but very light. It can reach 0-100 km/h in less than 5 seconds and has a top speed of 300 km/h. The Countach uses aircraft grade aluminum with a fiberglass underbody tray and only weighs approximately 1,400kg.

The legendary Lamborghini Countach - started the Lamborghini "Scissors doors" trademark

In the movie "The Wolf of Wall Street", a real gorgeous Pearl White color 25th Anniversary Lamborghini Countach was featured and crashed by Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Unfortunately, it was not a replica but a genuine Lamborghini Countach. After all, it was a movie about excessive and exorbitant wealth. Leonardo DiCaprio really deserves an Oscar for his brilliant act!

Lamborghini Aventador - The winner of the best Lamborghini was this cool-looking Matt Black Lamborghini with Green highlights who arrived late and made a grand entrance by revving the engines loudly and attracting a huge crowd. My friend Peter who owns this Monster Lamborghini is a humble and loving family man. It is great making friends with fellow car enthusiasts and we have arranged to go for regular drives together in our Lamborghinis on weekends. Surprisingly, most Lamborghini and Ferrari Car Owners are respectable family man who bring their wives, little children and babies along for this car festival :) Talk about dedication and devotion! Many baby prams were spotted at this event.

Another Lamborghini Aventador which stole the limelight at Auto Italia Canberra 2014 :)

Lamborghini Club - I also met the President of the Lamborghini Club - Mr John Edwards who informed me about his various ideas to plan more exciting events in the near future.

Other vehicles displayed at the event include Maserati, Alpha Romeo, Fiat, Ducati etc.

I also met my girlfriend Connie who lives in Canberra and we went for lunch together after the event.

Auto Italia Canberra is an annual event highly recommended for car enthusiasts to gather and marvel over beautiful Italian vehicles and I look forward to attending the 30th event in 2015. More info can be found at http://www.autoitaliacanberra.com/ see you guys there!

TRAVEL - Top 3 Travel Destinations I Highly Recommend

Flying to Brunei http://thesgsisters.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Brunei

TRAVEL - Top 3 Travel Destinations I Highly Recommend - I am writing to recommend the top 3 unique destinations to visit! Instead of visiting familiar countries that are so cliche and boring, here are my top picks. It's time to step out, venture into the unknown in order to find new life, energy and inspirations!

1. DUBAI - Read about Dubai Trip at http://thesgsisters.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Dubai

Dubai was a memorable trip where I would consider a pretty expensive and luxurious holiday. I visited Dubai as well as Abu Dhabi together! In Dubai, I stayed in the World's tallest building - The Burj Khalifa - The Armani hotel. I had the best lunches and dinners in the World's most luxurious hotel - The Burj Al Arab. I did camel-riding, went on the 4x4 dune bashing, did the quad bike/ATV ride around the beautiful sand dunes, had Arabian Hi-tea, Arabian BBQ, visited many mosques. I also did some shopping at The Dubai Mall where I bought a Lindy bag at Hermes Boutique.

Staying at THE EMIRATES PALACE in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi - You can cover both Dubai and Abu Dhabi at the same time as they are closely located. In Abu Dhabi, I stayed the world's most expensive hotel ever built - The Emirates Palace where I had a personal butler in my room! I also visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque which is one of the World's largest. Read about my Abu Dhabi trip at http://thesgsisters.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Abu%20Dhabi

Camel Riding

2. MOSCOW, RUSSIA - Read about my Moscow Trip at http://thesgsisters.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Russia

Visiting Moscow, Russia was rather dangerous as most Russians do not speak English and everything was like a puzzle to me. I recommend that you plan your travel carefully before going alone without any travel agent. I managed to get by somehow and it is definitely a beautiful country to visit as the Red Square is so beautiful. Full of history, culture and loads of interesting architectural buildings to marvel. Russian ballet performances was art in perfection! Top places to visit are The St Basil's Cathedral, The Kremlin, Red Square, The State Historical Museum etc.

3. New Zealand - Read about my New Zealand trip at http://thesgsisters.blogspot.com.au/search/label/New%20Zealand

The most beautiful country in the World would be New Zealand! When I first arrived and saw the breath-taking natural scenery in Queenstown, I almost didn't believe my eyes. I was in awe at how blue the waters were, how fresh the air smelled and how everything seems untouched and were in it's perfect natural beauty. While I had the luxury to travel across different parts of New Zealand, if you only have time for 1 place, please choose to visit Queenstown and visit The Milford Sound. The great thing about New Zealand is that you can enjoy the scenic drive across different places. Interesting places to visit are the original Hobbit Movie set (The Shire's Rest), The Cadbury Chocolate factory in Dunedin, Milford Sound in Queenstown, checking out the shopping and arts scene in Auckland, venturing deep into the mountains of Mount Cook to experience the Tasmanian Glacier unclose and personal, embracing the "smelly stench" of Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland in Rotorua etc.

I've always believed in living life to the fullest. Exploring the beauty of this World that God has created for us is a wonderful and privileged experience. Traveling helps to enrich our souls as we step out of our routine lives, embrace new experiences and learn new knowledge.
